This landmark exhibition is the largest and most comprehensive survey of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham’s work ever presented, bringing together more than 150 paintings, drawings and rarely seen archival materials.

Spanning eight decades, it traces her work from early landscapes and studio interiors to the bold colour, rhythmic forms and dynamic gestures of her later abstraction. Inspired by the landscapes of Scotland, Cornwall, the Canary Islands and continental Europe, Barns-Graham transformed sensation, memory and emotion into a distinctive visual language. Discover how she continually pushed the possibilities of abstraction, exploring the relationship between inner perception and the world around her through what she called ‘looking in/looking out’.

Touring from Tate St Ives, this major exhibition celebrates Barns-Graham as one of the most innovative figures in British modernism and a key member of the St Ives artistic community.
