This exhibition presents a new body of work by Brighton-based artist Aimée Parrott (b.1987), where gesture and form meet, boundaries blur, and the familiar is transformed.
Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, mono-printing, and textile techniques such as appliqué and stitching, Parrott’s practice hovers between abstraction and representation exploring themes of transformation, connectivity and exchange. Parrott treats the canvas as a fragile boundary between inner and outer worlds – a skin or body carrying traces of time, thought and gesture.
Drawing on ecological, geological and human forms, Parrott finds inspiration in her surroundings, from the Brighton coastline to the experience of pregnancy and motherhood. Fossils, shells and shifting landscapes emerge and recede, creating a sense of fluidity and the potential for metamorphosis.
