Dive into the rich tapestry of British art history and join us in exploring the dynamic intersections of tradition and innovation.

In this symposium, held in conjunction with the exhibition The Shape of Things: Still Life in Britain (11 May – 20 October), delve into still life’s rich history and explore themes such as mortality, gender, and the long shadow of colonialism.

The symposium will feature talks by art historians, curators, and artists, delving into themes spanning historic, modern, and contemporary British art. Explore connections between past and present, examining the genre’s renewal, explorations of gender identity, rich symbolisms, and its global significance.

We are excited to announce that keynote speaker, artist Phoebe Cummings, will be joining us alongside other practising artists, art historians and curators.

Join us for a dynamic exploration of still life’s enduring impact on British art and society.

Tickets cost £50 (£30 for students) and include refreshments and lunch.
